Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.
Psalm 46:10
In the midst of life’s storms, God calls us to be still. The Hebrew word for still (raphah) means to let go, cease striving, and surrender. It is an invitation to release our burdens and trust in God’s supreme authority, His dominion, and ultimate reign over all things.
Psalm 46:2-3 describes chaos—mountains shaking, waters roaring, and nations in turmoil—yet it proclaims that God is our refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1). His rule is unshakable, even when the world feels unstable.
To be still is to stop grasping for control and trust that God governs all things. When we feel overwhelmed, we must remember He fights our battles (Exodus 14:14) and that His peace surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7).
“Know that I am God” is a call to acknowledge and rest in His power. He is exalted over the nations, reigning over history (Isaiah 46:9-10). Even when life feels uncertain, His plans will stand.
Today, let us release our fears, surrender our anxieties, and rest in God’s perfect wisdom and divine rule. His call to stillness is not a call to inaction but to deep trust in His providence.
Prayer
Lord, in the midst of life’s storms, help me to be still and trust in You. Remind me that You are in control, even when I feel overwhelmed. Still my anxious heart, and teach me to rest in Your presence. Be exalted in my life and in all the earth. Amen
