Trusting in God’s Power
In Luke 8:50, Jesus speaks to Jairus, a father who has just received the worst news imaginable—his daughter is dead. The messengers tell him not to trouble Jesus any further, implying that all hope is lost. But Jesus looks at Jairus and speaks directly to his heart: “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”
This is the challenge of faith. Fear and faith cannot coexist—one will always overpower the other. Fear focuses on circumstances, whispering that it’s too late, that the situation is beyond repair. Faith, on the other hand, looks to Jesus and trusts that He is greater than our circumstances.
Jairus had a choice: to surrender to fear or to hold onto faith. Jesus did not ask him to understand how the miracle would happen—He only asked him to believe. This is the essence of faith: trusting in God’s power even when the outcome is unseen. As George Müller said, “The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith, and the beginning of true faith is the end of anxiety.”
When we face impossible situations, we must remember Christ’s words. His power is not limited by death, time, or human reasoning. If we fix our eyes on Him, fear loses its grip, and faith finds its anchor in His promises.
Prayer
Lord, help me to trust in You when fear threatens to take over. Strengthen my faith and remind me that nothing is impossible for You. May I always choose to believe, resting in Your power and love. Amen.
