I press on toward the goal to win the prize
for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:14
Lent is a season of both reflection and movement—a time to surrender distractions and press forward in faith. Paul’s life is a testimony of perseverance. Despite trials, weaknesses, and opposition, he never stopped trusting in God’s grace. He pressed on, not looking back at failures, but fixing his eyes on Christ, faithfully using his gifts for the glory of God.
Paul told Timothy, “Fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you” (2 Timothy 1:6). Cardinal Raniero Cantalamessa reminds us, “The greatest obstacle to holiness is not sin but the failure to believe in God’s love and power to transform us.”
We are often tempted to shrink back, doubting whether we have anything meaningful to offer. Yet, God calls us to use our gifts joyfully, trusting that His power is at work in us. Brother Lawrence, a humble Carmelite monk, wrote: “ We ought not to be weary of doing little things for the love of God, who regards not the greatness of the work, but the love with which it is performed.”
Even the smallest act of faithfulness—prayer, kindness, service — shines brightly when done with love. Lent is not about achieving greatness but about pressing on in faith, trusting that God is working through us.
Reflection:
Are you using your God-given gifts with gratitude and joy? How can you press on in faith this Lenten season?
Prayer:
Lord, help me to press on, trusting in Your strength and using my gifts for Your glory. May I serve You with love, knowing that even the smallest acts done in faith bring honor to Your name. Amen.
