Guard My Life

“Guard my Life, for I am Faithful to You;

 Save your Servant who trusts in You.

You are my God.”

Psalm 86:2

In a world where uncertainty seems to increase by the day—where headlines report conflict, injustice, disease, and disaster—David’s simple, heartfelt cry in Psalm 86:2 resounds with deep relevance: “Guard my life.”

This is not the cry of someone boasting in their strength, but of one who knows their weakness. David, though a warrior and a king, understood that true safety does not come from shields or armies but from the Lord. He identifies himself as a servant—one who trusts, one who belongs to God. His plea is not based on personal merit, but on relationship: “You are my God.”

We often feel vulnerable—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We may face threats we can’t control: illness, injustice, financial insecurity, or fear for the safety of those we love. In those moments, this prayer becomes our own: “Guard my life.”

David’s trust is not misplaced. He anchors it in God’s character—“You are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you” (Psalm 86:5). The One we call upon is not distant or disinterested. He bends low to hear us, to cover us with His wings, and to hold us secure in His hands (Psalm 91:4; John 10:28).

To pray “Guard my life” is not to ask for a trouble-free existence, but for the abiding presence and protection of the One who holds our days. It is to entrust ourselves to the God who watches over our coming and going, who neither slumbers nor sleeps.

Prayer:

Lord, we come to You today with the same prayer as David: “Guard our lives.” In times of uncertainty and fear, help us rest in the assurance that You are our God, faithful and abounding in love. Keep us safe—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—and help us walk in trust, not fear. Amen.
