Ripe for Harvest

Scripture- John 4:34–38

My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work… Look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest.” — John 4:34–35

Jesus found His strength not in food, but in doing the will of His Father. As William Barclay writes, “To Jesus, obedience to God was no grim task; it was the very essence and secret of life.” His joy came from —leading people into the kingdom of God.

After His encounter with the Samaritan woman, Jesus urged His disciples to look beyond physical needs and see the spiritual reality: people were ready to receive eternal life. Alexander Maclaren reminds us, “The world is always ripe for the reaper who has eyes to see.” Today, that remains true. Many are seeking truth, hope, and grace.

Jesus also said, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest… to send out workers into his harvest field” (Matthew 9:37–38). Whether we plant or reap, the reward is the same—souls brought to God (John 4:36). As Paul wrote, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth” (1 Corinthians 3:6).

Prayer:

Lord of the harvest, help me see the fields around me. Give me the joy, strength, and courage to serve You faithfully and help bring others into Your eternal kingdom.Amen.
