The Joy of Knowing God

“I have come that they may have life,

and have it to the full.”

John 10:10

There is no greater joy than knowing God—not merely knowing about Him, but walking with Him in a living, daily relationship. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, is both the welcoming Gate (John 10:9) who opens the way into this life of grace, and the faithful Shepherd (John 10:14–15) who guides, protects, and leads us every step of the way. His purpose is not simply to keep us alive, but to fill our lives with a richness, depth, and joy that only He can give.

When Jesus speaks of giving us “life to the full,” He is describing a life marked by inner peace, purpose, freedom from fear, and the overflowing love of God poured into our hearts. This abundant life is not measured by circumstances, success, or ease, but by union with the Shepherd who knows us by name. His love is sacrificial, personal, and overflowing—so much so that He laid down His life so we could truly live. In Him, we find rest for our souls, salvation for our hearts, and security even in the darkest valleys.

Ruth’s story gives us a picture of what this abundant life looks like in real time: ordinary faithfulness meeting God’s extraordinary grace. Her loyalty to Naomi, her integrity in the fields of Bethlehem, and her quiet courage during uncertainty were all gathered up into God’s greater purpose. Through the kindness of Boaz and the faithfulness of Ruth, God wove a story that led to the throne of David (Ruth 4:13, 17) and ultimately to Jesus Himself—our Shepherd who gives life in abundance. Behind every small act of obedience and kindness, we glimpse the hand of a generous and sovereign God.

So today, let us choose the better portion—to know Him, to listen for His voice, and to follow where He leads. For in Jesus we discover not just life, but life abundant—a life where His presence becomes our joy, His voice our comfort, and His love our strength (John 17:3).

Prayer:

Lord, thank You that in You I find rest, salvation, and security. Thank You for being my Good Shepherd and laying down Your life for me. Help me to know Your voice, follow You closely, and walk in the fullness You promised today. Amen.
