When God Seems Silent

 Faithfulness in the Silence

“Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him.”

Job 13:15

When life crumbles and silence from heaven lingers, we may wonder: Is God still with me? Have I failed Him? Job, stripped of everything—his health, children, wealth, and dignity—declared with unwavering courage, “Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him.” His faith wasn’t rooted in outcomes but in God Himself.

Mother Teresa’s story mirrors Job’s in many ways. After responding to God’s call to serve the poorest of the poor in Calcutta, she wrote in her journal:

“I want to love Jesus as He has never been loved before.”

But soon after beginning her ministry, she entered a deep and decades-long spiritual darkness. God felt distant. His voice silent. Yet, like Job, she did not abandon her trust. Day after day, she loved, served, and believed—even without feelings to sustain her.

From this place of surrender, she once wrote:

“I am a little pencil in the hand of a writing God who is sending a love letter to the world.”

God did not ask her for success or spiritual ecstasy. He asked for her. And she gave herself completely.

Hosea 6:6 reminds us: “I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.” What God wants—what He has always wanted—is you.

Prayer:

Lord, when You seem silent or far, help me stay faithful like Job. You are my hope—even when I cannot feel You. I offer You my whole heart. I am Yours.Amen.
