Born Again

The Gospel That Stands Forever

Eternal Life from an Eternal Word

“You have been born again,

not of perishable seed but of imperishable,

through the living and abiding word of God.”

1 Peter 1:23

Peter invites us to reflect on the nature of our new birth in Christ (1 Peter 1:23-25 ). This transformation — being born again — does not come from anything temporary or fragile. It comes from imperishable seed, the living and enduring Word of God. Human life, with all its beauty, power, and fleeting glory, is compared to grass and flowers that bloom briefly and then wither away. But God’s Word stands forever — and it is this eternal Word that brought us to life in Christ.

This truth should anchor us. So much of what we chase after in life — achievements, possessions, even human approval — is temporary. These things come and go like wildflowers in the field. Yet the Word that gave us life endures forever, and so does the salvation it proclaims. This eternal Word is not just a book or a set of teachings — it is the good news of Jesus Christ, the gospel that has been preached to us and entrusted to us to share with others.

As C.H. Spurgeon once said, “The Word of God is like a lion. You don’t have to defend a lion. All you have to do is let the lion loose.” God’s Word is alive, powerful, and eternally effective. Every time we open the Scriptures, God’s imperishable seed is at work in our hearts, shaping us into the likeness of Christ.

In a world obsessed with what fades, we are called to root our lives in what lasts. Let this encourage you when you feel fragile or uncertain — your hope rests on something eternal. And when you share the gospel, know you are planting seeds that cannot perish.

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” (Matthew 24:35)

Prayer:

Lord, thank You that my life is rooted in Your eternal Word. Help me trust in what lasts and share Your truth boldly, knowing Your Word endures forever. Amen.
