Keep Asking, Keep Seeking, Keep Knocking

“So I say to you:

Ask and it will be given to you;

Seek and you will find;

Knock and the door will be opened to you.”

— Luke 11:9

Jesus invites us into persistent prayer—not as a way to wear God down, but to draw our hearts closer to Him. The original language of this verse implies ongoing action: keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking. This is not about overcoming God’s reluctance. It’s about overcoming our own indifference.

Persistence, in prayer changes us. It refines our focus, exposes the true depth of our need, and strengthens our trust in God’s perfect timing. As we remain in prayer, our eyes begin to open to God’s movement — both around us and within us. Through this steady rhythm of seeking, we come to know our Father’s heart more deeply. In time, He reshapes our desires, gently aligning them with His own. We begin to pray less for specific outcomes and more for His will to be done in us — because persistent prayer doesn’t just bring answers; it builds relationship and brings transformation.

Jesus reminds us in Luke 11:13 that even flawed human parents know how to give good gifts to their children. “How much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” The greatest gift God gives is not just an answered prayer — it is Himself. The Holy Spirit, promised to all believers (Acts 2:1–4; John 15:26), is the comforter, guide, and presence of God with us.

Lent is a season of waiting, watching, and drawing near. Don’t give up but pray with confidence in God’s goodness. Keep knocking — not because the door is locked, but because the Father is waiting on the other side.

Prayer:

Gracious Father, help me to persist in prayer. Change my heart as I wait. Make me sensitive to Your presence, and give me the gift of Your Spirit as I seek You. Amen.
