Draw Near
In a small home in Bethany, Jesus is welcomed by two sisters. Martha hurries about, preparing a meal. Mary sits at His feet, listening. Both loved Jesus. Both were serving Him. But Martha became distracted and frustrated, even questioning Mary’s devotion.
Jesus responded with compassion: “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed.” He wasn’t rebuking her service—He was redirecting her heart.
Mary had her priorities right. She chose to sit and listen. Despite the distractions around her, she recognized that nothing was more important than being with Jesus. This is the heart of Lent—drawing close, listening, and making space for what matters most.
Are you so busy doing things for Jesus that you’re not spending any time with Him? Has your service become self-serving? It’s easy to mistake activity for intimacy. But Jesus wants your heart, not just your hands.
God is near. But will we pause to be with Him?
This Lent, choose what is better. Sit at His feet.
Prayer:
Lord, help me slow down and listen. Let time with You be my priority. Amen.
