“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
— Acts 2:4 (KJV)
This morning, our pastor reminded us that Pentecost is the birthday of the Church. It began not with a building or ceremony, but with power from heaven. The Holy Spirit descended on a group of believers gathered in prayer, filling them with boldness, clarity, and joy. In that moment, the Church was born—not as an institution, but as a Spirit-empowered community.
What followed was extraordinary. The disciples, once timid and uncertain, began to speak in many languages, proclaiming the wonders of God to people from every nation. This wasn’t just about communication—it was a sign that the gospel was for everyone. God’s presence had come to dwell not in temples made with hands, but in human hearts.
The fire and wind of Pentecost marked a new beginning. The Spirit came not because of the disciples’ achievements, but in response to their waiting, their unity, and their prayer. And the same Spirit who filled them still comes to us today.
Pentecost is not only a celebration of what God did—it’s a call to receive what God still does. We are invited to live in that same power: to be led by the Spirit, to serve in love, and to speak with courage.
Prayer:
Come, Holy Spirit. Fill us again. Set our hearts on fire for You. Make us bold in witness, generous in love, and united as Your Church. Let the flame of Pentecost burn in us today. Amen.
