Faith That Steadies the Ship

Trust in God During Turmoil

So keep up your courage, men,

for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me.

 Acts 27:25

Scripture Reading- Acts 27:13-38

Storms have a way of revealing what we truly believe. When the skies darken and the waves rise, what—or who—we trust becomes painfully clear. In Acts 27, Paul finds himself aboard a ship caught in a violent storm. The seasoned sailors are panicking. The soldiers are plotting. All hope of being saved seems lost (v.20).

And yet, in the chaos, Paul stands firm—not because he’s stronger, but because he’s anchored.

“Have faith in God,” Paul says, “that it will happen just as he told me” (v.25). His faith wasn’t wishful thinking. It was rooted in God’s promise, delivered by an angel: “Do not be afraid, Paul… God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you” (v.24).

What’s remarkable is that Paul, a prisoner, becomes the leader. His calm courage steadies the crew. He breaks bread, gives thanks, and encourages others to eat. In the middle of a shipwreck, he models peace, trust, and hope.

Faith in God doesn’t guarantee smooth sailing—but it does guarantee that we’re never alone in the storm. God is with us. His purposes will prevail. And like Paul, we are called to stand firm—not just for ourselves, but for the sake of those around us.

Prayer

Lord, when the storms of life surround me, anchor my heart in your promises. Help me to trust that your word will come to pass—even when the way is unclear. May my faith become a source of courage for others.Amen.
