Trusting in God’s Power
Reflection on Isaiah 40:28-31
Isaiah 40:28-31 reminds us of God’s unchanging nature and His boundless strength. “The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth” (v. 28). Andrew Murray reminds us, “The power of the Spirit is the power of God Himself dwelling within us.” While human strength falters, God never grows weary, and His understanding surpasses our own.
God meets us in our weakness: “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak” (v. 29). Mother Teresa said, “God has not called me to be successful. He has called me to be faithful.” This faithfulness is only possible when we depend on God’s strength rather than our own.
Even the strongest among us will stumble: “Even youths grow tired and weary” (v. 30). As Philip Yancey observed, “Faith means trusting in advance what will only make sense in reverse.” In recognizing our frailty, we learn to rely on the One whose power has no limits.
The promise of verse 31 inspires hope: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles.” Paul Brand reflected, “God does not waste pain. He uses it to teach us and strengthen us.” Trusting in Him allows us to rise above life’s challenges with endurance and perseverance.
When we wait on God, He exchanges our weariness for His strength, enabling us to walk with unwavering faith through every trial.
Prayer
Lord, renew my strength as I place my hope in You. Lift me above life’s struggles and guide me with Your unfailing power. Teach me to trust and walk faithfully in Your ways. Amen.
