Soaring Strength
“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.”
Isaiah 40:31
There are times when the weight of life presses so heavily upon us that we can hardly imagine taking another step, let alone soaring. In such moments, Isaiah 40:31 comes as a holy interruption—a divine reminder that strength does not come from within ourselves but from the Lord who never grows weary. Isaiah invites us to hope in the Lord, which is not passive waiting, but active trust—a leaning of our whole selves into the character of a God who is both infinite in power and intimate in love. To “hope in the Lord” is to choose faith over fear, to believe that God is not only able but willing to renew us.
God’s promise here is beautifully progressive. First, He says we will “soar on wings like eagles”—a picture of rising above circumstances, lifted by God’s Spirit rather than weighed down by our burdens. Then, we will “run and not grow weary”—sustained even in the fast-paced seasons of life. Finally, we will “walk and not be faint”—strengthened for the long, daily journey of faithfulness. God does not offer a quick escape, but enduring grace for whatever pace the day demands. Whether we are soaring, running, or simply walking, His presence and strength remain constant.
What is most striking is that this promise is not reserved for the strong, the perfect, or the self-reliant—it is given to those who wait. Those who pause in the presence of God, those who pray even when they feel nothing, those who remain quietly expectant in seasons of silence—these are the ones God strengthens. In a world that equates worth with productivity, Isaiah’s words reorient us: real strength comes not from striving but from surrender. The One who holds the stars in place also holds you close to His heart—and He will give you strength to soar.
Prayer:
Lord, we confess our weariness and the ways we try to push through in our own strength. Teach us to wait on You—not anxiously, but trustingly. Renew our strength. Help us soar above discouragement, run through responsibilities, and walk faithfully, knowing You go with us. Amen.
