Jesus is the Same

 Yesterday, Today, Forever— Jesus is the Same

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

Hebrews 13:8

Unchanging Christ in a Changing World

In a world that shifts beneath our feet, this verse becomes a steady anchor. Careers change, relationships move through seasons, and our own hearts rise and fall—but Jesus Christ remains utterly unchanged. The heart that healed the sick, welcomed the outcast, and stretched out His hands on the cross is the very same heart that loves us today. His saving power does not fade with time; His compassion is not fragile or dependent on our performance.  The Christ of the Gospels is the Christ who walks with us now.

For some of us, this truth was planted in our hearts long before we could fully understand it. One of the first choruses we learned as children still rings with the same sweetness and certainty:

“Yesterday, today, forever,

Jesus is the same;

All may change, but Jesus never

Glory to His Name.”

Even as children, we sensed the comfort of those words. Life around us was changing—schools, friendships, routines—but Jesus was steady. And now, with far more years behind us, those simple childhood lines carry even more weight. They have held through joy and sorrow, tears and triumphs, through seasons when faith felt strong and seasons when strength was borrowed.

They remind us that the Christ who held us then holds us still. His mercy has not worn thin; His strength has not grown old. The love that carried martyrs, comforted the grieving, restored prodigals, and redeemed the broken is the very love that surrounds us in this moment. He has not changed—and because He has not changed, neither has His commitment to hold us, help us, and keep us forever.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, unchanging Savior, we rest in Your compassionate love. When everything around us changes, keep our hearts anchored in who You are—faithful, constant, and near. Help us trust Your compassion, lean on Your promises, and walk in the peace that comes from knowing You never change. Amen.
