Reading: Mark 13:1–13
“And the gospel must first be proclaimed
to all the nations.”
Mark 13:10
Jesus does not shield His disciples from hard truths. In Mark 13, He speaks honestly about upheaval, opposition, and endurance. The temple will fall. Loyalty will be tested. Fear will press in from every side. Yet woven into this sober warning is a remarkable word of hope: “And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all the nations.” Even in times of shaking, God’s saving purpose is not interrupted. The good news continues to move outward, carried by faithful witnesses.
The good news of Advent is not that the road will be smooth, but that God is present on the road with us. Jesus promises that the Spirit will speak when words are needed, that endurance will be given one step at a time, and that faithfulness matters even when outcomes remain unclear. God does not spare His people from hardship, but He sustains them within it.
As we wait for Christ, this passage calls us to a quiet, courageous faith. We endure not through stubborn strength, but through trust. The good news does not remove difficulty; it gives us strength to remain faithful within it. In a season that often promises comfort and cheer, Jesus reminds us that lasting hope is found not in ease, but in staying close to Him—whatever comes.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
When the way is uncertain and the cost feels high, remind us that Your gospel is still advancing. Give us endurance rooted in Your presence, and courage to bear witness in word and life. As we wait for Christ, help us to stand firm in hope and love.
Amen.
