God’s Purpose Built in Us
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:10–17
“By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation
as a wise builder… But each one should build with care.”
1 Corinthians 3:10
The Christian life is not a self-designed project but a work of grace carefully ordered by God. Paul reminds us that the foundation has already been laid—Jesus Christ Himself—and everything built upon it must be shaped by Him. Our daily choices, relationships, and acts of service are like materials added to that foundation. Some will endure when tested; others will not. Scripture invites us to slow down and build with care, knowing that what we construct in faith is meant to last beyond the moment.
Paul presses the truth deeper by telling us that we are not only builders—we are the building. “You are God’s temple,” he writes, and God’s Spirit lives within us. God’s purpose is not displayed by our achievements alone, but by the persons we are becoming. His Spirit works quietly within us, shaping lives sturdy enough to endure and holy enough to reflect His glory. God’s wisdom forms character before it produces visible results, shaping lives that can truly bear His presence.
Seen this way, faithfulness is measured not by applause or activity but by alignment with God’s wisdom. As living stones, we are shaped and set in place not for our own glory or quick success, but to become holy ground—a dwelling place where God chooses to reside among His people. When our lives are formed by humility, love, and obedience to Christ, God’s purpose takes shape within us, creating something strong enough to endure and beautiful enough to reflect His glory.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for laying the true foundation in Jesus Christ. Shape our lives by Your wisdom and grace, and help us to build with care each day. Make our hearts a dwelling place for Your Spirit, and form in us what will last for Your glory. Amen.
