A Mother’s Whispered Prayer, A Nation’s Deliverance
When Faith Floats:
The Wisdom and Courage of a Godly Mother
“She speaks with wisdom, and
faithful instruction is on her tongue.”
— Proverbs 31:26 (NIV)
On this Mother’s Day, we celebrate the quiet strength and enduring love of mothers who speak life and lead with wisdom. The Scriptures honor such women, declaring that “faithful instruction is on her tongue.” A godly mother teaches not only with her words but with her example—through faith, courage, and sacrificial love.
One shining example is Jochebed (Numbers 26:59), the mother of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. Living under the cruel edict of Pharaoh to destroy all Hebrew baby boys, she chose to defy fear and trust in God. When she could no longer hide her baby, she placed him in a basket and set it afloat on the Nile (Exodus 2:1–10). That act of courageous faith became the foundation for Israel’s deliverance.
By God’s providence, Pharaoh’s daughter found the baby and unwittingly entrusted him back to Jochebed for nursing. Not only did Jochebed protect Moses’ life, but she had the opportunity to speak into his early years the truth of his identity and the faith of his people. Her wisdom helped shape the man God would use to lead a nation.
Jochebed reminds us that motherhood is often lived out in unseen faithfulness, brave decisions, and whispered prayers.
To every mother—biological, adoptive, spiritual, or maternal in spirit—thank you. Your love matters. Your faith shapes generations. Your words and life reflect the heart of God.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of mothers whose lives are marked by wisdom and courage. Strengthen them in their sacred calling. Let their words build up and their faith inspire. May they know that their work is never in vain. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
