Future Glory

Bible Reading: Romans 8:18-25

Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared 

to the glory He will reveal to us later.

Our lives are often shaped by what is immediately before us—health concerns, financial pressures, family responsibilities, disappointments, or uncertainty about the future. These burdens are real, but they need not become our highest priority. In Romans 8, the apostle Paul lifts our eyes beyond the struggles of today to the certainty of tomorrow. Though he knew suffering firsthand, Paul declared with confidence, “What we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.” The hope of eternity reshapes the way we view the present.

The early church father Jerome beautifully applied this truth to everyday life. He asked, “Do you dread poverty? Christ calls the poor blessed. Are you anxious about food? Faith fears no famine. Does loneliness terrify you? In the Spirit you may walk always in paradise.” Jerome was not denying the reality of hardship. Rather, he reminded believers that Christ is present in every trial and that no earthly loss can compare with the eternal inheritance awaiting God’s children. He concluded with Paul’s words: “The sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed in us.” When our hearts are fixed on Christ, our fears no longer define us because our future is secure in Him.

Dr. Paul Brand wrote, “Scripture calls us to action and to change the priorities in our lives.” Romans 8 does exactly that. It calls us to exchange a temporary perspective for an eternal one. As we seek God’s kingdom first (Matthew 6:33), we begin to value His presence above possessions, His promises above our problems, and His eternal glory above our present comfort. We still wait, and at times we still groan, but we wait with hope. The glory that God has prepared for those who love Him far outweighs every burden we carry today. When we live in the light of future glory, we discover the right priorities for faithful living today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, 

When the burdens of today seem overwhelming, lift our eyes to the future glory You have promised through Christ. Help us to seek Your kingdom first, trust Your unfailing promises, and live each day with eternity in view.
