God Will Make a Way

Standing Firm with God’s Help

“So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” — 1 Corinthians 10:12–13

There is a quiet danger in assuming we are spiritually unshakable. Paul’s caution in 1 Corinthians 10:12 urges us not to become overconfident in our own strength. Even those who appear strong can stumble if they begin to rely on themselves rather than on God. The Israelites experienced God’s mighty works—yet many fell into sin. Their story serves as a warning: past blessings don’t guarantee present faithfulness. Standing firm, then, requires more than willpower; it requires humility, vigilance, and continual dependence on God’s grace.

Temptation is a universal human experience. What we face is not new or unique—it is “common to mankind.” But in every temptation, we are not alone. God is faithful. He doesn’t merely sympathize with our struggles; He actively limits what we face and provides a path through it. He promises never to let us be tempted beyond what we can bear, and always to make a way of escape. Whether it’s a quiet conviction, a timely word from a friend, or an inner nudge to flee—His grace is present and sufficient in every test.

To stand firm is not to be self-assured, but God-assured. Our confidence is not in our ability to resist, but in His ability to rescue. As Thomas à Kempis once wrote, “The acknowledgment of our weakness is the first step toward strength.” In temptation, we turn not to ourselves, but to the One who is always faithful. With God’s help, we can stand, endure, and walk forward in holiness—not perfectly, but securely held by the One who makes a way.

Closing Prayer

Lord, we thank You for Your faithfulness. When we are tempted, remind us that we are not alone. Help us to recognize the way of escape You provide and to stand firm in Your strength. Keep us humble, watchful, and dependent on You. Amen.
