Refreshed by God’s Provision

Today’s Reading: Psalm 68:1–10

You gave abundant showers, O God; 

you refreshed your weary inheritance.

Psalms 68:9 

There are seasons when life feels like a wilderness. We grow weary under the weight of responsibilities, uncertain about the future, or discouraged by unanswered prayers. Psalm 68 reminds us that the God who leads His people is also the God who faithfully provides for them. David begins by praising the Lord as the mighty King who scatters His enemies and rejoices over His people, yet this all-powerful God is also “a father to the fatherless” and “a defender of widows” (Psalm 68:5). His greatness is revealed not only in His strength but in His tender care for those who depend on Him. David’s praise is also a song of faith. Many of the blessings he celebrates had not yet been fully realized in his lifetime, but he trusted that the God who had been faithful in the past would fulfill every promise in His perfect time. True praise is not only gratitude for what God has done but confidence in what He has promised to do.

David then looks back to Mount Sinai, where God called Moses, established His covenant with Israel, and revealed His awesome presence as the mountain trembled (Exodus 3:1–10; 19:18). Sinai became a lasting reminder that the Lord is faithful to His Word. The God who led Israel through the wilderness, fed them daily with manna, brought water from the rock, and refreshed His weary inheritance with “plentiful rain” (Psalm 68:9) never abandoned His people. Every act of His provision pointed to His covenant love. Remembering God’s past faithfulness gave Israel confidence to trust Him for the future, and it should do the same for us.

The God of Sinai is the same God who walks with us today. Jesus assures us that our heavenly Father knows what we need before we ask (Matthew 6:32), and Paul declares, “My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). God’s provision may not always come in the way we expect or at the time we desire, but it is always sufficient and always given in love. When we remember how God has sustained us in the past, our fears begin to give way to faith. Let Psalm 68 become our own song of praise—a declaration that the God who has always been faithful will continue to lead, refresh, and provide for His people until every one of His promises is fulfilled.

Heavenly Father, 

When we grow weary, remind us of Your faithfulness in the past and strengthen us to trust You for the future. Help us to praise You with confidence, knowing that You will supply all our needs according to Your riches in Christ Jesus.
